Horace Batts, former chauffeur to landed gentry in Hay-on-Wye. Died in Craig-y-nos 1930, age 29. Letters written by him during the last few months of his life are in Powys Archives. They tell of a very strict regime where he is fed, not allowed to write or do anything, and all his post is opened by the ward sister. His only comfort comes from the weekly service on the hospital radio.
